Animal Adaptations Sorting

In the Montessori approach, studying animal adaptations helps children understand the natural world, develop scientific thinking, and appreciate life's interconnectedness by examining how animals survive and thrive in their specific environments.

Identify and classify the animals based on their adaptations. Verify the classification using a control chart.

This set includes:

  • description of animal adaptation
  • an explanation of each trait
  • 16 animal cards
  • 2 control charts

The animal cards are in a three-part format:

  • 16 cards with labels
  • 16 cards without labels
  • 16 labels

To use three-part cards, match the labels to the corresponding pictures. Verify the matches using the control cards with the labels.

NOTE: This material is available in two versions, each for a different skill level.

Set 1 includes a one-word description and the name of the animal on each label (example: "dormant bear" for the trait of hibernation).

Set 2 includes only the name of the animal ("bear" for the trait of hibernation).

Sorting cards are approx. 3½" x 3½".
