Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom Sorting

In the Montessori approach, studying the Animal Kingdom is designed to enhance a child's understanding of the natural world and to cultivate an appreciation for diversity. This method also aims to develop empathy and respect for living creatures while providing a structured foundation for understanding animal classification.

Identify and classify photographic cards into the nine phyla of the Animal Kingdom: Porifera, Cnidaria, Platyhelminthes, Nematoda, Mollusca, Annelida, Arthropoda, Echinodermata, and Chordata. Verify the classification using the control chart.

Includes:

  • 9 characteristic cards
  • 36 animal cards (4 for each)
  • control chart

To create a set of 3-part cards, print the cards twice. Cut the labels off one set and leave them intact on the other. To use three-part cards, match the labels to the corresponding pictures. Verify the matches using the control cards with the labels.

Picture cards are approx. 3½" x 3½", and the control chart is approx. 9½"x 6¾".
