Sink & Float Sorting - Cut & Paste

The hands-on sink and float lesson helps children develop scientific thinking skills such as cause and effect, observation, comparison, reasoning, data gathering, experimentation, and evaluation. After using the concrete hands-on materials, this printable will test their ability to think abstractly.

This is a cut-and-paste activity. Cut out the pictures. Sort and classify the objects based on whether they sink or float. Use the control chart to verify the classifications. Then, glue the pictures onto the blank chart.

This set includes:

  • 7 pictures of objects that sink
  • 7 pictures of objects that float
  • 1 blank chart
  • 1 control chart

There are two versions of the cut-out pictures: one set is organized in a classified order, while the other is in random order, providing a greater challenge. Additionally, there are two variants: one set is labeled, and the other is not.

The control chart is approx. 8½" x 11".
