Types of Plant Roots

Montessori education emphasizes a deep connection with the natural world, and plants are a tangible and beautiful way to introduce children to botany and the environment.

Identify and classify photographic images of seven types of plant roots. Then, use the control charts to verify the classification.

This set includes 7 types of plant roots: tap, fibrous, buttress, tuberous, adventitious, prop, and aerial.

Each of the 7 types of roots includes:

  • a description card
  • a quiz card and an answer label
  • 1 name card with blackline picture
  • 3 photographic images

Also includes:

  • 2 letter-size charts (one with labels, one without)
  • 2 legal-size charts (one with labels, one without)

The cards are in a three-part format:

  • cards with labels
  • cards without labels
  • labels

To use three-part cards, match the labels to the corresponding pictures. Verify the matches using the control cards with the labels.

Cards are approx. 3½" x 3¼", control charts are 8½" x 11" and 8½" x 14".
