Sailing Ship Nomenclature - Cards (red)

The term 'nomenclature' derives from the Latin nomenclatura, meaning 'assigning names.' Nomenclature enriches vocabulary, develops language skills, and enhances the understanding of concepts.

The Sailing Ship Nomenclature Cards are formatted as 3-part cards and include a blackline master. The 23 parts of a sailing ship: ship, keel, bow, bowsprit, hold, tween deck, rudder, tiller, whipstaff, great cabin, roundhouse, steerage, forecastle, mizzen mast, mizzen sail, mainmast, main topsail, main course sail, foremast, fore-topsail, forecourse sail, spritsail, and hull.

The ship illustration is based on the Mayflower (the year 1620) and is a nice addition to a Pilgrim unit.

To use three-part cards, match the labels to the corresponding pictures. Verify the matches using the control cards with the labels.

After the children have learned the individual parts, they can create their own booklet by coloring and labeling the blackline master.

Cards with labels are approx. 3¾" x 4", cards without labels are approx. 1" shorter, labels are approx. 1".
